The
New
Life Tabernacle Church Of God In Christ was founded in February of 1990 with
6 members, Elder Quintin L. Marshall Sr,. Mrs. Sylvia Marshall, Brother Rufus
McCrary, Mother Arnell Marshall McCrary, Sis Geraldine Wilson and the pastor
's aunt, Sister Deborah Perkins, providing encouraging support.
During the first year of the churches existence we rented auditorium space
from the
Urban League Training Center
at the corner of Pierson Rd. and Cloverlawn St. in the city of Flint, Mi. During the church's time at the
training center, the membership grew to about twenty-five and we purchased a
used organ, new drums, a pulpit and a new sound system with mikes. In
February of 1991, the church was able to move into and rent a regular church
building located at 4401 Selby St. Flint, Mi, (formerly known as the St.
James COGIC). The new facility was the oldest Church Of God In Christ
building in the city of Flint. It's rich heritage and distinctive celebrated
history and landmark status, added the it's ore of traditional status to
the contemporary visioned ministry of the
New Life Tabernacle COGIC
to form
a church with strong ties of the past, and a
creatively vibrant soul reaching church for the future.
In February of 1992,
Pastor Quintin Marshall Sr.
saw the opportunity to
purchase the historic building on land-contract from the New St. James
Memorial COGIC.
With the church behind him, an offer was made and accepted by 7777 and
members of
New Life Tabernacle, purchased our first building.
Over the past 16 years several improvements have been made to
the building including a new roof, a new heating and cooling systems,
remodeled kitchen, bathrooms, nursery, offices and a custom built sound booth.
The church has re-carpeted the entire sanctuary, offices and foyer, and
upgraded it's audio systems to mass produce CD's and tapes Since the
church's inception in 1990, it has implemented and headquartered several
community church initiatives, such as Youth Explosion Retreat, Angel &
Shepherd Celebration, Purity Class, Adult
Retreats, Summer Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, Youth and Adult
Choir, Feed the hungry in Haiti West Indies. Black History Recognition
Awards Ground work is now being laid for new programs, Community Pride,
Youth Community Cadets, Neighborhood Outreach, Youth Partnership Mentoring
and adopting school partnerships. The Church is currently in the process of
securing a state of the art new facility to worship, with 4 acres of land in
Genesee Twp, where we can expand our outreach to build the lives and impact
the souls of the hurting, the lost and the less fortunate. As we move
forward in our
God
given initiatives, we ask that you pray for us that we will answer the
clarion call of these last days ministry.
